Water is the most yin in character of the five agents.
It is the last stage of the cycle.
Its motion is downward and inward,
and its energy is quiet and conserving.
Water signifies a period of retreat,
where stillness and storage pervade.
It is tied to Winter and the North,
and to the condition of old age.
Maybe old age is really just another way of saying
that it exists beyond time.
